India Faces Possible Blow as Rohit Sharma Might Miss Important Test Against Australia
India may be without their captain, Rohit Sharma, for one of the first two Test matches in their upcoming series against Australia, due to personal reasons communicated to the BCCI. The Indian team is gearing up for a challenging five-Test series, set to begin on November 22 in Perth. There is a chance that Rohit might miss either the opener or the second match in Adelaide, scheduled between December 6-10.
While the specifics of the situation remain unclear, sources within the BCCI, speaking on condition of anonymity, have shared that Rohit has informed the board of a potential need to step away due to an urgent personal matter. “If the issue is resolved before the series begins, there is a possibility that Rohit could play all five Tests. However, we are awaiting more clarity in the coming days,” the source mentioned.
The 37-year-old skipper recently featured in both home Test matches against Bangladesh and is preparing for India’s three-Test series against New Zealand, starting on October 16. Should Rohit miss one of the Tests in Australia, Abhimanyu Easwaran, currently leading the India A team in Australia, is a strong contender to replace him. Meanwhile, seasoned players Shubman Gill and KL Rahul are also in the mix, with ample experience in the opening slot.
